BUT I've come up with a basic formula (MUAHAHAHAH mad science!) for the daily show (from an editing perspective. SHEJAL THIS IS FOR US YO!!)
Formula:
1. Spiffy entry title scene with date. Announce the guest etc.
2. Intro to first topic topic of show through cuts back and forth between relevant (and often ridiculous) clips followed by funny John Stewart commentary. (Basically a thesis statement on what he's going to poke fun at).
3. Continues with cuts b/t clips and funny commentary, but usually in much more depth.
REPEAT FOR SECOND TOPIC
Guest segment:
Interview style, guest says funny things, John says funny things.
SEEMS like the segment is shot in one continuous segment
Moment of Zen:
Usually a clip that helps out the bits of ridiculousness that occurs in one of the topics discussed during the show. This is usually...
and THE END
SO Basically I'm going to say that we can equate the editing with the organization and fine tuning (duh) of a paper.
@Shejal: Your thoughts, madam?
